Pathways, 18 Years and Going Strong, to Support Women With Cancer

Pathways, a program of The Connection for Women and Families in Summit, provides ongoing support and educational resources and as well as wellness programs  to women  with breast and gynecological cancers, creating a community in which shared experiences lead to personal growth and healing.

Each fall, with the arrival of Ovarian and Breast Cancer awareness months, I am reminded again of all of the women and families that continue to be impacted by cancer.  These women come together to take advantage of the opportunity to connect with one another.  Giving and receiving support from other women who share in some part of your cancer journey is an incredibly healing experience, understood only by other survivors.  And as always, I am grateful for the wonderful and consistent support that our community continues to provide which enables us to advance the kind of direct and personal programs that really make a difference in survivors’ lives.  Pathways has maintained a presence in Summit since 1994, as a resource to both patients and oncology professionals alike.  We offer a unique set of programs, unlike any other in our community.

From individual and group support, to meals, to fitness and educational programs, to financial assistance, to community activism and advocacy – in so many ways and because of your support, Pathways has been able to provide these direct services.  Generous contributions from individuals like you have enabled us to positively impact women with cancer and the community that supports them, free of charge, for 18 years!   Here are some of the ways that Pathways has helped so many:

  • 316 cancer survivors and family members received services within the last year
  • 400 telephone calls providing information and referral were processed
  • 875 medical professionals were trained by Pathways staff and patient educators
  • 1,632 meals prepared for women and undergoing treatment and their family members through the Pathways Cooks project
  • 1,591 individuals served this past year through all of our programs and services

The needs are so many, and our resources so limited.  I know that there are many worthwhile organizations that make pleas for your financial support.  As you prioritize your giving, bear in mind that Pathways is a lean, grass roots organization that provides direct and personal care to so many in Summit and surrounding towns.  Please send in your tax-deductible donation to Pathways today to enable us to continue to help the growing number of individuals in our community impacted by cancer each year.

Sincerely,

Michele Visco, LPC,  Pathways Director
