SUMMIT - Oratory Prep School’s 2011-2012 basketball program was honored in June with the Thomas Wachenfeld Sportsmanship Award. Committee Chairman Dennis Murray offered congratulations and presented a sportsmanship banner to Director of Athletics Pat Gist and Head of School Bob Costello at the school in Summit.

“Your entire Oratory community should be proud of this award that can be displayed in your gym,” Mr. Murray told the administrators.

Oratory Prep’s basketball program, under the direction of varsity basketball coach Brian Martin, was selected by the nearly 1,000 members of the IAABO Board 33 as the 2011- 2012 winner of this award. One school from each of the seven counties serviced by Board 33 is selected by member vote based on the level of sportsmanship demonstrated by coaches, players and administration of a school’s basketball program.

Mr. Costello said of the award, "When our boys display good sportsmanship, it makes me gratified to know that we are teaching the right components of a true athlete."
