Policy Summary

Summit’s town council has the duty and responsibility to not only listen to the voices of its citizens, but to react, respond, and follow through with changes based on their needs and desires.  Currently, noise disturbances primarily due to machinery such as lawnmowers, snow blowers, leaf blowers, etc., have been plaguing Summit’s citizens.  This noise pollution is governing the way many people in Summit live, affecting sleep and work habits.  Presently, noise control laws are vague and difficult to enforce.  Furthermore, as Summit’s town council exists in order to serve the needs of its people, including maintaining public order, it is necessary to act on these desperate pleas.  Therefore, several of Summit’s concerned and diligent youth have decided to act on and attempt to ameliorate Summit’s noise ordinance.  Likewise, we wish to amend the ordinance regarding noise pollution and disturbances to be firmer and easier to enforce than it currently is.  Thus, modeling the ordinance based on the city of Destin, Florida, we will instate a limit to the amount of noise pollution to neighboring buildings, in decibels.  This will allow Summit’s police to be able to act on and enforce the laws regarding noise disturbances.
