Oratory’s Billups to Play for Johns Hopkins

SUMMIT—Matt Billups of Watchung, a 6’9 senior at Oratory Prep School in Summit, NJ, has decided to attend Division III Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland to continue his basketball career.
Matt is a four-year varsity letter winner and has been a starter since his sophomore year. He led Oratory in scoring, rebounding and blocked shots last year. This year he has improved on all of last year’s numbers and averaged 14 points, 10.4 rebounds and 4 blocks per game. Matt’s best single game effort was a triple double with 20 point, 18 rebound and 10 blocked shot performance this season.
“Matt has really elevated his game in the last four years and I still see him improving every day,” said Oratory Coach Brian Martin. “I think his upside is tremendous and that with his work ethic, Matt will enjoy even more success at Johns Hopkins.”
The Star Ledger named Matt one of the top 25 rebounders in the state. The son of Louann and Richard Billups, he intends to study Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering at Johns Hopkins University next year.
