Overlook Hospital cardiologist to speak to teens, parents about heart health risks for young athletes
Steven J. Sheris, MD, chief of cardiology for Gagnon Cardiovascular Institute at Overlook Hospital, will speak to parents, teenagers and other members of the community about the heart health risks that young athletes face, at a special presentation at Summit High School library, 125 Kent Place Boulevard, Summit, NJ, on Wednesday, April 13, 2011, 7:00pm.
In “Awareness of Cardiovascular Incidents in Adolescent Athletes,” Dr. Sheris will address a topic that has been underscored by recent tragic deaths of athletes at high schools throughout the country. The issue of heart risks for young athletes was also recently examined in a study by the American Heart Association, which concluded that the number of cardiovascular incidents in collegiate athletes has risen in recent years.
