Overlook Medical Center ranked by U.S. News & World Report ‘High Performing’ For neurology & neurosurgery
U.S. News & World Report ranks Overlook Medical Center among the best hospitals in central New Jersey and as a “Best Regional Hospital” for Neurology and Neurosurgery, as reported in the publication’s annual Best Hospitals list.
“The U.S. News & World Report ranking of Overlook Medical Center as a regional leader in neurology and neurosurgery is a testament to our dedication to providing superior neuroscience care,” said Alan Lieber, president, Overlook Medical Center, vice president, Atlantic Health System. “I am pleased to see that our commitment to attracting top-rated neuroscience physicians, nurses and industry experts, as well as investing in high neuro-technology, is recognized by this honor.”
As the premier center for neuroscience and stroke care in New Jersey, Overlook Medical Center has amassed the largest team of neurologists, neurosurgeons, and neuroscience nursing staff in the state. Overlook is the first state-designated Comprehensive Stroke Center with an impressive tPA-administration rate of 15 percent; whereas, only four percent of patients nationwide receive tPA – a powerful clot-busting drug that can reverse stroke. Overlook is a Level IV Epilepsy Center with the only magnetoencephalography (MEG) technology in New Jersey. The Brain Tumor Center of New Jersey at Overlook offers vaccine trials and stereotactic radiosurgery with the CyberKnife®.
Concussion care and rehabilitation, pain management, spine and neck care, as well as dedicated research and care for memory disorders, dementia and movement disorders, are all programs at Overlook Medical Center that have increased in volume and resources over the last several years.

The hospital rankings, said U.S. News Health Rankings Editor Avery Comarow, are like a GPS-type aid to help steer patients to hospitals with strong skills in the procedures and medical conditions that present the biggest challenges. “All of these hospitals are the kinds of medical centers that should be on your list when you need the best care,” Comarow said. “They are where other hospitals send the toughest cases.”
The rankings were published by U.S. News in collaboration with RTI International, a research organization based in Research Triangle Park, N.C. Highlights of the 2012-13 rankings will appear in the U.S. News Best Hospitals 2013 guidebook, to go on sale in August.
