Robert W. 'Bull' Brydon, 90, Summit Native & Former Major Leaguer

  • Survived by: Dell J. Coe, companion; seven children; Anita Brydon, former wife; 15 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; and Marjorie Trampler, sister.

Robert W. "Bull" Brydon of Budd Lake died on July 30 in Little Brook Nursing Home in Califon. He was 90. Born and raised in Summit, Brydon graduated from Summit High School, where he was an All State baseball player as well as an accomplished football and basketball player. He went on to play baseball for Seton Hall University and was signed by the Brooklyn Dodgers. He interrupted his baseball career to serve in the Marine Corps during World War II, where he earned the Bronze Star and Purple Heart Medals and various campaign ribbons. Unable to continue playing baseball because of battle injuries, Brydon joined his family's plumbing business, A.W. Brydon and Son, after his service, and remained there for many years until the company was sold. Brydon subsequently joined the Steamfitters Local Union 475 in Warren, where he worked until his retirement.
