Council Approved City Employees Salaries in June

2011 salaries became effective July 1.

 

Common Council approved the salaries for all city employees at its June meeting. However, Patch recently obtained a copy of the resolution containing the salaries, something many residents have been craving for months.

Non-Union

City Administrator Chris Cotter is the highest paid city employee making $182,959. His administrative assistant Megan Champney makes $60,012.

In the clerk's office, City Clerk David Hughes' salary is $131,354, Deputy Clerk Rosemary Licastese makes $69,893, and administrative assistant Michelle Caputo makes $59,257.

Listed under management, Jin Blades, administrative manager in the Department of Community Services, makes $61,496, Director of DCS Beth Kinney's salary is $128,075 with Superintendent of Public Works Paul Cascais making slightly more at $130,354. Christopher Holenstein, project manager in Public Works, makes $88,537.

Rita McNany, parking services manager, makes $86,208.

In the Department of Community Programs, Director Judith Josephs makes an annual salary of $125,855, Mark Ozoroski, the assistant director, makes $92,078, and Joanne McGhee and Maria Hughes, both administrative assistants, make $72,002.

Fire Department

Fire Chief Joseph Houck leads the department with an annual salary of $165,664, followed by Deputy Chief Rick DeGroot with a salary of $144,084. Of the four battalion chiefs, three make $130,917. The other makes slightly less at $128,536.

There are four lieutenants in the fire department as well, with the average salary being $110,970. Of the 22 firefighters, including the sub-code official and fire inspector, the average salary is $95,146.

Police Department

Chief Robert Lucid makes $168,677, Deputy Chief Walter Kelley makes $151,388, and four lieutenants make between $135,036 and $137,536.

Nine sergeants make an average of $119,529 while the remaining 31 officers make an average of $97,913.

Teamsters

Ray Cooper, the foreman at the city's garage, makes $91,471 and the three mechanics who work there make an average of $71,532. Richard Caputo, the foreman in parks and recreation and Doug Rillo, foreman of roads, both make $87,904.

It appears that the City could freeze the salaries of the people listed in this article for 5 years and the employees would still be way ahead John Q. Public. Then they might be able to hire the additional people that they need.

These salaries are sky high while many Summit residents are losing their homes. Why are they so high and how do they compare to others in the surrounding towns. I am shocked and not pleased by interactions with many of these City employees. They have a superior attitude and now I know why, they are overpaid!

These salaries are over the top and a reason for our high taxes. What crowning achievements do these employees have that entitle them to these lofty wages???? Sure would like to know. Does the Mayor get paid??? What can we do about these salaries,
