Families Invited to Build Summit With LEGOs

Imagine a huge map of downtown Summit, 30 feet by 20 feet, that features all of the streets and dozens of significant buildings, and then envision teams of children and their parents, having a wonderful experience creating each of these treasured buildings using more than 50,000 LEGO blocks on a gymnasium floor.

On Sunday, Jan. 29, from 2 to 4 p.m., the largest LEGO construction project ever built in Summit, benefitting the , will be held at , 507 Morris Ave.

The Architectural Heritage Workshop is intended as a fun way to teach children, their parents and grandparents — even aunts, uncles and cousins — about the heritage of buildings in Summit.

The workshop will be presented for the sixth year by Stephen W. Schwartz, of SWS Architects of Livingston, with the help of . is sponsoring the workshop. Registration for the event begins on Friday, Jan. 13, at 10 a.m., and must be done in person at Coldwell Banker at 401 Springfield Ave.

The registration fee is a minimum contribution of $25 per family, payable by check to the Summit Historical Society. Payment must be made at the time of registration to secure a spot at the event, which is limited to the first 50 families who register.

Children must accompany their parents for the workshop, and spectators are invited to join the fun at no charge.
