Join Community, Summit Police for National Night Out
Summit’s National Night Out will be held on the Village Green from 6p.m. – 8:30p.m. on Tuesday, August 7th.
Summit’s National Night Out will be held at Summit’s Village Green on the corners of Elm, Broad and Maple Streets. The event runs from 6:00 PM – 8:30 PM on Tuesday, August 7th.
There will be a variety of events scheduled throughout the evening including displays and demonstrations from the Summit Police Department, Summit Fire Department, Summit First Aid Squad and the Department of Community Services.
The Department of Community Programs will host a Magic Show featuring kid’s magic, comedy and juggling. An inflatable obstacle course will challenge the teens and Chris Clark’s Extreme Bike Show demonstration is sure to entertain. This year, the Department of Community Programs will sponsor a major concert as a part of the event featuring “Slick” on the Showmobile Stage playing classic rock and roll hits. Refreshments will be served. Community Organizations that work in concert with the Summit Police Department will also have information tables.
National Night Out was introduced by the National Association of Town Watch in an effort to heighten awareness and strengthen participation in local anticrime efforts. The first National Night Out was introduced in early 1984 with the event scheduled for the first Tuesday in August.
That first year, 400 communities in 23 states participated. Last year’s 28th Annual National Night Out involved 37.0 million people in communities from all 50 states. Over 15,500 communities are expected to participate this year. The City of Summit is proud to be one of those communities. It’s a wonderful opportunity for communities to promote police co-partnerships, crime prevention and neighborhood camaraderie.
Chief Robert Weck urges Summit’s residents to “Join the Summit Police Department in observance of this great national event”. For more information on National Night Out contact the Summit Police Department at 908-273-0051 or the Department of Community Programs at 908-277-2932. www.cityofsummit.org
