Police: New Providence Man Hits River Road Utility Pole
Driver may have fallen asleep prior to accident, police said.
Police report that a 19-year-old driver from New Providence may have fallen asleep at the wheel prior to a car vs. pole accident on River Road early this morning.
Lt. John Dougherty said Andrew Dudonis was driving a 1994 green Jeep eastbound on River Road when he crossed over the westbound lanes and struck a utility pole on the corner of River Road and Iris Road at 6:34 a.m.
Dudonis and his passenger, Berkeley Heights resident Andrew Marrisa, were both taken to Morristown Memorial Hospital with minor injuries, Dougherty said.
The utility pole was damaged and is currently being held in place by a JCP&L truck. The pole powers a nearby office building and will be repaired after 5 p.m. today Dougherty said. No one else was injured in the accident.
No charges have been filed at this time, he said.
