Remembering Neil Armstrong

Summit locals, current and former, remember Neil Armstrong

He's been called a "reluctant American hero" and a pioneer of outer space exploration. When former astronaut Neil Armstrong passed away this weekend it was clear we had lost a part of living history.

Summit locals near and far remembered Armstrong on Twitter following the news of his passing.

Councilman Patrick Hurley, a former Naval pilot, wrote:

RIP Neil Armstrong. One of my childhood heroes and I was proud to wear the same Wings of Gold he did.

Journalism teacher Barbara Audet (@varvaraephemera) who grew up in a home on Mountain Avenue remembers her family celebrating the moment with an early recording.

In Summit, NJ. Watched as my brother used reel to reel videotape recorder to save it. Wrote a letter and got photo in mail.
