Summit Playhouse Adds Sunday, 5p.m. Showing of "Into the Woods, Jr"

The play has sold out 3 shows already this weekend.

Looking for a fun family activity this weekend?  Look no further than the Summit Playhouse!

The Summit Playhouse Kaleidoscope Theatre for Youth proudly presents not one, not two, but THREE Pixie Dust Players Productions this summer!  With performers ranging in age from 5 to 20, each of these shows promises to delight the whole family with terrific music, entertaining stories, and captivating performances by talented children and teens from our area.

Lindsay Maron fell in love with singing and dancing at the age of 3 and has never looked back.  She has performed in many shows including playing Becky (Molly and Kaya) in Circle of Friends: An American Girl Musical in New York and Belle in Beauty and the Beastat the Summit Playhouse just to name a few.  Five years ago, when Lindsay was only 12 and working on her “Mitzvah Project” for her upcoming Bat Mitzvah, she discovered another gift – that of directing.

She put together a small group of herself and five friends she called the Pixie Dust Players and put on “revue” type performances at nursing homes and children’s hospitals.  Since then, she has directed 8 more shows with kids for kids, and her passion for theater, professionalism, and incredible eye for detail, combined with remarkable maturity, organizational skills, and an ability to bring the best out of her performers, have brought her ever increasing success. When asked about her ambitious plans for this summer, Lindsay remarked “it sounds overwhelming, but I am incredibly lucky to have a wonderful team of volunteers who make it all possible.

Once I learned that Brandon was available to be the music director for all three shows, I knew we could make it work!”  Brandon is a Vernon, NJ native who is a rising junior at the Boston Conservatory who Lindsay describes as a “musical genius who makes each rehearsal fun and is a perfect partner”.  Lindsay and Brandon began working together last summer and together hope to continually raise the bar for children’s theatre.

This weekend, following in the footsteps of 8 sold out shows of Winnie the Pooh, Jr, Into the Woods, Jr will delight audiences with wonderful music, witty dialogue and a new twist on some of the most beloved childhood stories.  The Brothers Grimm "go Broadway" as Sondheim and Lapine offer up a cockeyed fairy tale where all of your favorite characters meet and interact on their journeys. When a Baker and his Wife learn they've been cursed with childlessness by the Witch next door, they embark on a quest for the special objects required to break the spell, swindling, deceiving and stealing from Cinderella, Little Red Ridding Hood, Rapunzel and Jack (the one who climbed the beanstalk!).  Guaranteed to make you laugh, with songs that will stick in your head, this is a wonderful show that is recommended for ages 5 and up.

And up next weekend (back by popular demand!) is THE PEOPLE GARDEN, an inspiring show about a kindergarten class learning many of life's simple yet most important lessons.  This heartwarming 60 minute musical is family friendly with great songs, laughs and moments that will touch your heart and soul.  Recommended for ages 5 and older, this show deals with subjects including honesty, bullying, sharing, loss and friendship. So come in out of the heat (it’s air conditioned!) and bring your kids to a show that they won’t soon forget!
