The Fourth of July 2012 is here! And sticking with over a half-century of tradition the City of Summit is holding a fireworks extravaganza tonight.

City police have issued a couple of advisories leading up to the nightime portion of today's celebration. If you're only planning on attending the fireworks at 9:15p.m. at Memorial Field (100 Ashland Rd.), then be aware of traffic and parking.

For those in need of handicap parking for the event, head over to Watchung Place and Tulip Street. 

According to a police advisory sent out just after 1p.m. authorities will begin gearing up for the fireworks at 9p.m.

A series of road closures wil go into affect along Ashland Road and Tulip Street up to Manor Hill Road. There will be restricted access starting at 6p.m. along Clearview Drive, Watchung Place, Myrtle Avenue, Larned Road and Parkview Terrace.
