The Summit School District will not receive any additional state aid than it did last year, according to the NJ Department of Education, which released state aid numbers Thursday afternoon.

While the proposed Fiscal Year 2014 Budget released today represents the largest appropriation of K-12 education dollars in the state's history, state aid to the District of Westfield for 2013-14 will total $1,525,733, a zero percent increase from the 2012-2013 figure. 

"We estimated that our state aid would be the same as last year for the proposed 2013-2014 Summit Public School Budget," said Nathan Parker, Superintendent of Schools.

During the Mar. 7 Board of School Estimate public meeting, Parker and Business Administrator Louis Pepe will present the proposed school budget. The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. in Council Chambers.

The nearby New Providence School District received $29,613 in additional aid this year and the Mountainside district received a 1.2 percent increase. But Berkeley Heights only received one additional dollar in state aid. Springfield saw the biggest bump in state aid for all of Union County, netting an 18.3 percent increase over last year.

According to the NJ Department of Education's website, Gov. Chris Christie's proposed budget includes nearly $9 billion in state aid, an increase of $97.3 million over Fiscal Year 2013.

"Throughout my time in office I have continuously argued that in order to grow New Jersey's economy we must invest in education, and my proposed budget is a reflection of my commitment to our educational system and communities across the state," said Christie. "However, even as we continue to fund education at the highest levels in state history, we must remain willing to reflect on how we are spending our money and work towards solutions that make every dollar we invest count."
