The Weekender: The Arts, Bingo and Open House at Watchung Stables

Check out the Patch Community Calendar for family fun on a budget or free events that are happening this weekend.

 

This weekend has a number of events that allow you to appreciate the arts. You can attend the opening reception at the Visual Arts Center of New Jersey or watch the amazing performers at Temple Emanu-El. The following events are offered for a minimal fee or FREE.

Friday

Opening Reception: Members Show & Sale 2012

The Visual Arts Center of New Jersey will present its annual Marylou Hillyer Members Show & Sale to showcase the work of 200 members. The Members Show will run through August 26th.  Free – 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. – Summit

Saturday

Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory and Rising Star Showcase

Temple Emanu-El and The Continuo Arts Foundation presents Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory and Rising Star Showcase with two performances.  Audiences will be delighted with music spanning the Broadway spectrum with songs from Willie Wonka, The Candy Man, Oompah Loompahs and much more. $10.00/ticket – Two shows: 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. – Westfield

Westfield Farmers Market

Stop buy and purchase a juicy peach, ripe watermelon or some of the homemade baked goods. The Farmer’s Market is sponsored by the Westfield  Area Chamber of Commerce.  Free – 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. – Westfield

Sunday

Summit Farmers Market – New Location

Join the Summit Farmers Market at their new location this weekend.  The market is open every Sunday, rain or shine and features local organic produce, artisan breads, cheeses and much more.  Free – 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Summit

Open House at Watchung Stables

The Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders and The Department of Parks and Community Renewal will sponsor an Open House at Watchung Stables. There will be fun, family games and you can learn all about the stables.  Free – 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. - Mountainside

Bingo Time in Berkeley Heights

Volunteer to sit with a resident at Runnells Specialized Hospital and play bingo. Bring your children and let them experience an inter-generational, fun game of bingo and share a smile.  Free -  2 p.m. – Berkeley Heights
