Tulip Street and Prospect Street Closed For Repairs Next Week

The area includes access roads to The Connection and Summit Oaks Hospital. Detours are posted for access to Springfield Avenue.

A sewer repair project will close the intersection of Tulip Street and Prospect Street for much of next week, beginning on Monday, Feb. 27, according to Summit Police. Drivers in the area are being asked to use caution and to drive slowly in the morning and afternoon during school drop-off and pickup times. The area of the road closure includes The Connection, Summit Oaks Hospital and the nearby Summit middle school.

While the road closure should last a week, the city’s website says that the entire project will last until early June. The project will replace a culvert, or water channel, that carries Prospect Street over the Salt Brook.  “Certain utilities, including the sanitary sewer, have to be relocated,” according to information of the city’s construction updates website. “The work will also include sidewalk, curb, and paving in the immediate vicinity of the work zone.” The entire project will include Tulip Street to Larned Road.

Here is the detour information provided by city police:

  • The detour will follow Ashland Road to Pinegrove Avenue to Blackburn Road to Springfield Avenue, and in reverse.
  • Westbound traffic on Prospect Street will be detoured right onto Tulip Street to Springfield Avenue.
  • Eastbound traffic on Prospect St. will be follow left onto Blackburn Road to Springfield Avenue.

Jogi Construction, Inc. of Edison is the firm handling the project

The project was supposed to take "a week." It is now in its third week. Does anyone know when the roads will be re-opened? Thanks.

Tulip Street was open this morning. Looks like there is still a bit of work underway on Prospect.
