Summit's 'Rising Stars' Secure Highest Number of Nominations by the Paper Mill

Summit High School earned 19 nominations in the Paper Mill's Rising Star Awards. The cast and crew of "Beauty and the Beast" earned accolades.

For the eighth year in a row, Summit Performing Arts has been nominated for Best Overall Production of a Musicial by the Paper Mill Playhouse Rising Star Awards. Again this year, Summit leads the list with the most final nominations — 19 — of any participating school, following it's successful production of "Beauty and the Beast." Ninety-two schools entered this award program. The Awards Ceremony will be June 4 at the Paper Mill Playhouse. Summit will once again perform a number on the stage as one of the six nominated outstanding musicals. Unleash Your Creativity with 'Artists' Way' Workshop

Regardless of a person's profession these days, those with creativity and ideas are valued the most highly in every endeavor—but many have difficulty removing the roadblocks that keep them from fully expressing their ideas. But creativity and artistry can be unleashed, and an upcoming class led by someone who knows will teach some methods that encourage participants to find the artist within. Montclair State University's annual Theatre Night Awards has nominated Summit Middle School's 'The Hobbit' in best performance by a Middle School.

Editor's Note: This information was originally published on the Summit school district's website. For the fourth consecutive year, the Lawton C. Johnson Summit Middle School Theater Department's fall production (The Hobbit) has been nominated in the category of "Best Overall Performance by a Middle School" by Montclair State University's annual Theater Night Awards. Over 50 middle and high schools from throughout New Jersey participate and the middle school's productions have consistently been nominated  and won in this category each year. Summit HS Graduate's Movie Wins Jury Selection Award at Boston Student Film Festival

Jeremy Weiss, a graduate of Summit High School, created the movie Riff Raf that has won the Jury Selection Award at the Boston Student Film Festival on April 11.

Jeremy Weiss is a Summit High School graduate who is now pursuing a graduate degree in film at Emerson College; his film Riff Raf won the Jury Selection Award, essentially 'Best in Show' at the 2013 Boston Student Film Festival.  Weiss said he is honored that Riff Raf was selected out of twelve films by a jury of professionals for the award. "It means a lot to me that professional film critics chose it, Weiss told Patch. "Riff Raf had many contributors to its success and I share the victory with them all." Riff Raf is black and white film about a Jazz Musician who finds himself in a situation of mistaken identity. Although Weiss originally wrote Riff Raf in 2006, it was not until his acceptance into Emerson where he realized he finally …

'Around the World in 80 Minutes' Orchestra Performance to Take Place in Summit

The New Jersey Intergenerational Orchestra will perform at Summit High School on April 20.

Join the New Jersey Intergenerational Orchestra at a free concert as they take a musical journey “Around the World in 80 Minutes” on Saturday April 20th, 7:30pm at Summit High School. Guest Conductor Todd Doan and the orchestra will take the audience on a musical adventure that includes Russian composer Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov’s brilliant encapsulation of Spanish folk tunes in Cappricio Espagnol and French composer Camille Saint-Saën’s exotic Danse Bacchanale from Samson and Delila. Dreamcatcher Repertory Theatre Hosts Annual Mother's Day Gala

The annual Mother's Day Eve Gala celebration will take place on May 11.

  The following information was provided by the Dreamcatcher Theatre.  Dreamcatcher Repertory Theatre, professional Theatre in Residence at the Oakes Center in Summit, is hosting their annual gala celebration on Saturday, May 11 at 5:30 pm at the Elks Lodge, 40 Maple Street in Summit. This year’s gathering focuses on the important women in all of our lives, and provides a unique alternative or supplement to celebrating Mother’s Day with Sunday brunch. The evening will begin with cocktails and appetizers at 5:30 pm, followed by a catered dinner at 6:30.
