 “A Tree Grows in Summit” Art Reception

 The public is invited to attend a special Art Reception in support of Summit Public Art on Friday evening, February 22, from 6-8 PM at MONDO, 426 Springfield Avenue in downtown Summit. Hosted by The Mayor’s Partnership for Public Art/Summit, commonly known as Summit Public Art, the evening will take place in the Brownstone Theater on the third floor of MONDO.

Several well-known area and local artists have agreed to show and sell their work at the event. The funds raised will go towards the installation and completion of the new Gateway Tree Sculpture, a new piece that will be installed on Broad Street, welcoming visitors to Summit, hence the name “A Tree Grows in Summit!” The 16-foot stainless steel sculpture by renowned artist Douwe Blumberg is expected to be completed and installed this spring.

Some of the artists whose work will be on display and for sale include Valeri Larko, Nancy Ori, Jenny Reinhardt, Sheila Srere, Nany Tietbohl, Mollie Bolger, Christian Garibaldi, Anne Kullaf, Neela Pushparaj, Jody Pfeiffer, Diane Gallo, a Glassroots sculptor, and others.

Light refreshments will be served at the reception and guests are then encouraged to dine out afterwards at three particular Summit restaurants – Fiorino Ristorante, Winberie’s, and Taka Sushi – because these three establishments have agreed to donate a percentage of the evenings’ food bills to Summit Public Art. Reservations for dinner are recommended; tell them you’re coming from the “tree” reception!
