Childhood bullying - What every parent should know
Overlook Medical Center, 99 Beauvoir Ave, Summit, NJ | Get Directions »

Bullying is increasingly recognized as a serious problem of childhood. Yet, the age-old view of bullying as something children inevitably and naturally do, i.e. "boys will be boys" and "girls are mean," is still commonly held. In contrast, we now know that most childhood bullying occurs because of adult modeling of bullying behavior and inadequate efforts to prevent and address it.
The good news is that adults can prevent most bullying and address it effectively when it occurs. Overlook Hospital Family Medicine and Community Health will present a free seminar for parents who want to learn useful skills to prevent and address bullying effectively, hosted by Stuart Green, DMH, LCSW, of Cranford, founder and director of NJ Coalition for Bullying Awareness and Prevention (njbullying.org) and chair of the New Jersey Commission on Bullying in Schools. Mr. Green is also a behavioral scientist at Overlook Hospital and Associate Director of the Overlook Family Medicine Residency Program.
