Dad of Late, Bullied Teen to Speak at Summit Middle School

John Halligan will offer parents and students strategies on how to deal with bullying, cyberbullying and youth depression.

After losing his son, Ryan, 13, to suicide in 2003 following relentless bullying by classmates, John Halligan has made it his mission to share the lessons he and his family learned too late.

Halligan will visit Lawton C. Johnson Summit Middle School for three PTO-sponsored presentations today. Seventh- and eighth-graders will attend 75-minute assemblies during the morning, while parents, guardians and caregivers are invited to attend the 7 p.m. presentation in the auditorium.

Halligan, whose program has been featured on Oprah, Anderson Cooper, Good Morning America, Primetime with Diane Sawyer, PBS Frontline America, BBC Worldwide as well as many others will address how to deal with bullying, cyberbullying and youth depression.
