Mitzvah Mania

The Partnership for Jewish Learning and Life just wrapped up a week and a half-long community service program called Mitzvah Mania which ran from August 6th – 15th. Teens were able to customize their volunteer schedule based on their availability and interests.

Teens flocked from all over the region to donate their time and do something great for their community. Teens had a wide range of activities to choose from including dance and cooking classes with developmentally disabled individuals at the JSDD Wae Center, karaoke with senior citizens at Lester Senior Housing, and gardening at the Greater Newark Conservancy. Many of these local organizations provided the opportunity for participants to sign up to continue their service.

The program put the volunteering into perspective with learning sessions that took place before each volunteer activity. By the end of the program, teens had a sense of the impact that their service had on the greater community and they could place their experience within a Jewish context.

The Partnership for Jewish Learning and Life offers engaging programming for teens throughout the year. They also connect MetroWest teens with Jewish Service Learning opportunities that fit their interests. To learn more, contact Rabbi Shmuel Greene at (973) 929-2975 or sgreene@thepartnershipnj.org.
