City of Summit Offering Unpaid Internships for Summer 2014

The City of Summit is continuing its successful unpaid college internship program for the eighth year in a row. Originally starting in the Department of Community Services (DCS), it has now expanded to other City departments. 

Applications will be accepted beginning March 15 through April 30. Interviews will be scheduled in early May for selected applicants. The program is targeted for college students majoring in political science, public administration, business, or communications/marketing and who are interested in adding significant project management experience to their resumes. Students are expected to work a minimum of 24 hours per week for four to six weeks this summer. 

Alumni of the City’s internship program have been accepted into the White House internship program and offered paid positions at Google, Tesla Motors and Goldman Sachs, among other exciting academic and professional opportunities. 

“We have had the privilege of hosting some outstanding students in this internship program,” explains Beth Kinney, Director of Community Services for the City of Summit. “Working with them has been a wonderful experience. While they are gaining experience in Public Service, the City benefits from the enthusiasm and energy that they bring to City Hall.” 

There are a limited number of positions available in this program. Internships may extend into the fall for those students who attend local colleges.  If interested, please contact summitdcs@cityofsummit.org.  The deadline to apply is 4/30/14.
