GIRLS ON THE RUN: VOLUNTEER COACHES NEEDED

“COACH” IS A GREAT NAME FOR YOU!!!

Girls on the Run,” is a positive youth-development program that combines an interactive curriculum with running to inspire self-respect and healthy lifestyles in pre-teen girls.  We are currently recruiting volunteer coaches for our sites in Union County including: Summit, Berkeley Heights, Springfield, Clark, Westfield, Scotch Plains, and Union as an after-school program.

The nationally acclaimed program was designed for girls in grades 3-5. A “Girls on Track” program is for girls in grades 6-8. The 10-week program begins in mid September and wraps up in November.

The curriculum focuses on building self-esteem and improving emotional and physical health while training for a 3.1 mile, or 5K, running event.  The goal of “Girls on the Run” is that girls who complete the program are physically, mentally and emotionally stronger and better prepared to overcome the challenges and pressures of adolescence and beyond.

Here is a testimonial from one of our local coaches in Clark:

"I thought being a GOTR coach was going to be an opportunity to help girls learn to grow through running, but it is so much more! GOTR teaches young women the value of their feelings, communication skills, goal setting, and what true beauty means. Many times throughout the season I realized that the objectives of the lessons were also concepts that I needed to be reminded to utilize in my everyday life, such as the power of positive thinking and the importance of being there for other women. I wish there was a program like this when I was younger to help guide me through difficult times in my life and to kick start my love of running!"
