New Specialty Fitness Classes Launched at Summit YMCA

On February 1, the Summit YMCA announced the launch of exciting, new specialty group fitness classes and studios. The expansion of the fitness program enhances the breadth and depth of wellness offerings at the YMCA. As a cause-driven organization, the Y is focused on improving the health and well-being of the community. Members and potential members, alike, are encouraged to try the new classes.

“At the Y, we want to remain current with the latest trends in fitness” said Terri Clinton, Executive Director of the Summit YMCA. “If it is important to our members, it is important to us. We are here to ensure that we provide every opportunity for individuals to improve wellness – and we believe these classes will help them reach their fitness goals.”

Recent renovations to the Summit YMCA have created space for new fitness studios. In total, the Y now has three Yoga studios including a Yoga studio, a Hot Yoga studio, and a Yoga/Barre studio complete with bars and mirrors. There is also a new studio dedicated to Primal Fitness and Boxing. Classes for TRX Suspension Training will take place in the Y’s auditorium. Additionally, the Indoor Cycling studios have been repainted and renovated with new floors, platforms for instructors and new bikes that include technology that tracks RPM, time, distance, and heart rate.

As a result of the renovations, the Y has expanded its fitness program offerings to include new specialty group fitness options. Primal Fitness is a new class that offers a total body workout by focusing on seven primal movements including jumping, walking, carrying, squatting, running, throwing and lifting. Another new class is TRX Suspension Training which leverages gravity and body weight to develop strength, endurance, balance, flexibility and stability. For individuals who are interested in developing lean, elegant muscles, the Barre Sculpt Class uses targeted and precise movements that strengthen muscles. The Boxing class is a new opportunity to build upper body strength while improving aerobic endurance and balance. The addition of a new Hot Yoga studio allows for a variety of Hot Yoga classes, including Bikram Style Hot Yoga, Hot Power Vinyasa Flow, Rapid Hot Vinyasa Flow and Hot Yoga Inspired Boot Camp.

The new specialty classes can be purchased at competitive prices. The Y is offering Hot Yoga, Primal Fitness and TRX classes at the same cost so that participants can mix and match the classes when they purchase a package, which provides flexibility and diversity to exercise routines. Additional flexibility is available through the Mind Body system that the Y utilizes to facilitate ease of scheduling classes for all participants. The system also keeps participants “in-the-know” by providing updates on class schedules, times and potential changes.

“We are raising the bar with our fitness options,” commented Heather Worthy, Wellness Director at the Summit YMCA. “Each week we offer over 100 classes so that our members can take wellness to a whole new level.”

To keep pace with the enhancements to group exercise classes, the Y recently upgraded the equipment in the Wellness Center, the Weight Room, and the Strive Room for a well-rounded exercise experience.
