Rose and the Nightingale CD Launch as Sounds of a Summer Night Continues at Reeves-Reed Arboretum July 24

Broadway and cabaret was the theme at Reeves-Reed Arboretum this past Wednesday evening, July 10 when aspiring young artists from NJPAC’s Summer Youth Performance Workshop took to the stage at the Arboretum’s summer concert series, Sounds of a Summer Night.  An appreciative crowd of about one hundred people sat on lawn chairs and blankets as these young, talented singers performed, solo and in groups, selections from the musical theatre repertoire.

Sounds of a Summer Night continues on Wednesday evening, July 24 with the group, Rose & the Nightingale, as they launch their new CD, Spirit of the Garden.  Rose & the Nightingale is four powerful New York based multi-instrumentalists and improvisers.  The band’s warm sound of three part vocal harmonies, intricate arrangements, and burning solos creates a deep level of connection with audiences.  Spirit of the Garden, inspired by botanic gardens, blurs the boundaries of jazz, folk, world, and chamber music, and celebrates the sublimity of gardens through song.  Members of Rose & the Nightingale have performed internationally on five continents, at venues such as Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Radio City Music Hall, and at the most prestigious jazz festivals around the world, and have shared the bill with such luminaries from jazz legends Esperanza Spalding and Chris Botti, to pop stars Jay-Z, Beyonce, and Sting.

The Arboretum grounds will close to the general public at 5 pm and reopen to concertgoers at     6 pm for picnicking. Guests are encouraged to bring folding chairs and blankets.  The concert will begin at 7 pm.  There is a minimum $10 donation at the door.  Thanks to underwriting by Investors Savings Bank, this series is free to all RRA members.
