Town Choristers to Perform with Spanish Choir

The Intermediate Chorus of the New Jersey Youth Chorus will be performing with Escolania de Montserrat, an elite boys choir from Catalonia currently on tour in the USA.  The concert will be at 7:00pm on Friday, March 14, 2014 at the Calvary Episcopal Church, 31 Woodland Avenue in Summit.  Admission is free, although donations will be accepted at the door.  Intermediate Choir members include Summit residents Lara Blomfield, Allyson Burkitt, Annette Jones, Grace Mahoney, Andrew Pulver, Rory Quinn and Jillian Sher. 

 

Escolania de Montserrat is one of the oldest music schools in Europe.  The boys choir is made up of more than 50 boys, ranging from 9 to 14 years old, coming from all across Catalonia.

“It is an honor to share this concert with the boys of Escolania de Montserrat.  Music is our common ground.  Despite growing up on different continents and speaking different languages, our choristers will sing as one.  It will be a very special night,” said Tara Postigo, Director of the Intermediate Chorus of NJYC.

The New Jersey Youth Chorus, founded in 1992, is an auditioned choral program for children in grades one through twelve, divided into five ensembles:  First Steps to Music (grades 1 – 2), Apprentice Chorus (grades 3 – 4), Intermediate Chorus (grades 5-7), Advanced Treble Chorus (grades 8-12), and Young Men’s Ensemble (grades 7 – 12 for changing and changed voices). Over two hundred choristers come from almost 40 towns in six counties of New Jersey. The heart of its mission is to provide quality music education that encourages young people’s love and appreciation of choral music and nurtures their individual growth and development.
