DeForest Avenue Construction Project Begins Today

Submitted by the City of Summit

The City of Summit is announcing the start of a reconstruction project on DeForest Avenue beginning Monday, June 30, 2014.

The overall goal of the project is to improve the streetscape, traffic flow and pedestrian safety on DeForest Avenue on the blocks between Summit Avenue and Maple Street. The first phase will begin on the south side of DeForest Avenue between Summit Avenue and Beechwood Road.

The project will include replacement of existing curbs with bump-outs at redesigned crosswalks. Sidewalks will be renovated to match the type being installed in the downtown. Street lights will be added and the road will be milled and paved.

Although DeForest Avenue will remain open during construction, parking will be impacted. A number of metered street spaces will be temporarily removed and Park & Shop Lots 2 & 3 will be closed at certain phases of the project. The Summit Farmer’s Market will not be impacted.

For more information and updates on parking lot closures, please visit http://cityofsummit.org/parking.  The entire project is expected to be completed by August 30, 2014.
