List of Summit WiFi Hotspots, Warming, and Charging Stations

With a nor' easter upon Summit and temperatures expected to fall to the low 30s by Thursday night residents are being told to either stay with a friend or seek shelter in Summit or Union County.

For those looking for a place to charge up, warm up and get online (there are still hundreds without power in  town), here's a list of warming and charging stations and times of operation.

Summit Jewish Community Center (9a.m. to 5 p.m. Mon-Thr, and until 2p.m. on Fri.): Located at 67 Kent Place Blvd. the community center is open as a warming and charging station and has hot coffee and cocoa, according to their website. Call 273-8130 with questions.

SAGE Eldercare (8a.m. to 5p.m.): The senior day-care facility located at 290 Broad St., is open to residents as a warming and charging station. You can reach them at 273-5550.

Unitarian Church (9a.m. to 5p.m.): The church offers warming, charging and cofee as available. It's located at 4 Waldron Ave. Call 273-3245 for further details.

The Connection For Women & Families (5:30p.m. to 5p.m.): You don't have to be a member at the 79 Maple St. location to warm up, charge up and shower during the Connection's special hours.  Call 273-4242 for details.

Open Late

Calvary Episcopal Church (24 hours): The church has been offering three meals a day to those suffering from the impact of Sandy. Calvary continues to be open non-stop as a warming and charging center. Hungry? They offer breakfast at 8a.m., Lunch at noon and dinner at 6p.m. daily. The church is located at 31 Woodland Ave. Call 277-1814 with questions.

Summit Free Public Library (9a.m. to 9p.m. Mon. to Wed. and until 5p.m. Thurs and Fri.): Although they suffered a recent WiFi outage, the library at 75 Maple St. got their Internet back! They offer charging, warming, and of course books, DVDs, computers and games — and librarians willing to share some knowledge. Call 273-0350 for more details.

Dept. of Community Programs (8:30a.m. to 8p.m.): (Se habla español) Better known as the Community Center, or the Rec Center, this 100 Morris Ave building is the place to warm up, charge up, hop on the WiFi, or shoot some hoops. Call 277-2932 with questions.

Summit Elks Lodge (11a.m. to 11p.m.): This organization is all about community. They were there during the Sandy aftermath and open their doors again for warmth, charging and a hot pot of coffee. Located at 40 Maple St. They have an elevator for handicapped accessablity. You can reach the lodge at 522-9640.

Summit Area YMCA (5:30a.m. to 10p.m., overnight for sleeping): The Y, at 67 Maple St., is operating as Summit's only shelter. You can shower, charge your electronics and stay warm here. Call 273-3330 with any questions.

No light? No heat? Find shelter.

The county is operating a shelter at 220 Walnut Ave. in Cranford, open to all in need.

If you need a place to house a pet contact Ann at St. Huberts Animal Shelter 201-572-3011. Mennen Arena on West Hanover Avenue in Morris Township is working as a shelter for people and pets.
