The Summit Interfaith Council will hold a candlelight vigil from 4 to 5 p.m. on Saturday on the Village Green to remember the 20 first-graders and 6 educators shot to death on Dec. 14, 2012, at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut. The shooter also killed his mother and himself.

The event is co-sponsored by NJ Million Mom March Chapters of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, NJ Residents for Action Against Gun Violence and Friends Against Violence Everywhere (FAVE).

Speakers include Rev. Vanessa Southern, senior minister of The Unitarian Church in Summit, Ralph Froehlich, Union County Sheriff, and Samuel Arnold, president of the Garden State Funeral Directors Association. Music will be provided by the children’s choir of Summit’s St. Teresa of Avila Roman Catholic Church and others.

The mother of a child killed on a local playground and others will reflect briefly on the toll of gun violence. The vigil will end with a group candle-lighting in remembrance of all killed by gun violence.
