Summit Police Department Reminds Area Residents About Unwanted Medication Disposal Program

SUMMIT, N.J., April 15, 2014 – The City of Summit Police Department would like to remind area residents about its Project Medicine Drop, a permanent box in the atrium of City Hall where members of the public may deposit unwanted medications with no questions asked.

 The Police Department then disposes of deposited material according to normal procedures associated with the destruction of controlled dangerous substances.  Summit Police Chief Robert Weck explains, “The statistics concerning prescription drug abuse are stunning. The Drug Enforcement Administration reports that prescription drugs are responsible for more overdose deaths than many “street drugs” such as cocaine and methamphetamines. A permanent site is an important option for the residents of Summit and those in our neighboring communities. Please use it.” 

The City Hall atrium is open and the drop box is available to members of the public from 7 AM to 9 PM daily.
