60's Legends Gary Lewis & the Playboys in Concert Tonight

This Diamond Ring, Count Me In, among their hits.

The 1960's saw a number of talented boy bands hit the scene following in the footsteps of The Beatles and the Beach Boys in the middle of that decade.

Groups were all the rage, normally dressed in tight-fitted suits with tidy haircuts, playing to their young and often screaming fans.

One of those was Gary Lewis and the Playboys, who rocked the charts with seven top-ten singles between 1965 and 1970, with their first, This Diamond Ring, rocketing to # 1.

And tonight, you can actually see and hear Gary Lewis in concert at Jonathan Dayton High School in Springfield, with the show set to begin at 7:30pm. All are welcome and the concert is free.

Lewis and his band actually got their start at Disneyland as a house band, where they played to sold out crowds. Soon after, they recorded their first song and the rest is history.

Lewis, who is the son of legendary comedian Jerry Lewis, did not make known his famous father when auditioning for that Disneyland gig many years ago.

The group appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show and American Bandstand, among many others.
