Collecting the New: Thursday Evening Salon Series

Collecting the NewPresented by Beth Venn, Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art & Senior Curator of American Art, Newark MuseumBeth Venn will consider both the joys and challenges confronting museums today as they acquire art in a wide range of new media. From light and sound pieces to video and internet art, contemporary artists' use of new and often ephemeral materials have caused museums to re-think the way they care for and preserve their collections. The Thursday Evening Salon Series features 10 exiting lectures spanning current topics in the arts, humanities, and the social sciences. Discussions are held in an informal salon setting and provide an opportunity for everyone—regardless of educational or professional background—to learn more about the world of art and artists and how it impacts other disciplines. The Series runs from January13-May 19.
