Home and Hearth Family Day

Hearth and Home Family Day

Warm up from winter with this family-friendly program in the museum’s gallery. Learn about children’s chores and family life in 1810. Was life at home different than it is today, or fairly similar? Where did people get their food? See how wool is spun into yarn, try on clothing styles from a long time ago, learn about reducing, reusing, and recycling then and now, enjoy a make and take craft and more!

This program takes place in and around the exhibit, Hearth and Home: A Century of Family Life, now on view in the main gallery. Explore 100 years of American life at home through the generations of the family who lived, worked, played, and learned here. Evocative quotes from the museum’s extensive archives together with historic objects and images provide a through-the-keyhole perspective into the lives of people who lived a sustainable lifestyle circa 1810-1910 in Morristown, New Jersey.
