Shaping Heart and Mind Toward Welcoming
We sometimes talk of hospitality as if it were just setting a nice table, offering your guests good food and wine and a warm welcome. What more is it? What more does it need to be in a pluaristic age? The ancient ethic of hospitality made it mandatory to welcome the stranger into your tent and offer three days food , water and protection, though you weren’t even allowed to ask his or her name. Benedict of Nursia saw hospitality as such a foundational spiritual practice he made it mandatory for his monks to make it part of their practices and obligations. How can our hearts and minds become more hospitable? Who are the “strangers” each of us needs to learn how to welcome in the world today? Come explore with Bob Morris and Vanessa Southern. Our companion book will be Radical Hospitality by Father Daniel Homan and Lonni Collins Pratt.
