Women Hold Up Half the Sky: How Women are Changing the World

What is the "girl effect" and how is it changing China? How many underground schools have educated girls in Afghanistan - even during Taliban days? How is America a part of a world-wide shift in the social and economic status of women? Using Nick Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn's award-winning book, Half the Sky, the class will explore the crisis and opportunity of women around the world as they struggle to free themselves from poverty, brutalization, sexual exploitation. Inspirational stories from the book and from our guest speakers will reveal how brave souls are changing oppression into opportunity - and what part we can play!

The class will be led by Interweave Founder and Executive Director Robert Corin Morris, with guests Martha Gardner and Ellen Jacob Wraith.
