Summit Fine Arts & Crafts Festival to Feature 100 Artisans on Sunday

This daylong festival will serve as the kickoff event for the weeklong 'Discover Summit Arts Festival,' which will feature more than 40 events all across the city through Saturday, June 29.

Artisans will sprinkle the streets of downtown Summit this Sunday for the third annual Festival of Fine Arts and Crafts.

Sponsored by Summit Downtown, Inc., this juried festival will also feature live music, jewelry, paintings, sculptures, photography and crafts from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., rain or shine, along Union Place, Beechwood Road and Bank Street.

“It’s a nice mix and it gives people the opportunity to figure out what they like and go where they want to go,” said Marin Mixon, Executive Director of Summit Downtown, Inc.

Mixon said this fine arts festival will act as the kickoff event for “The Discover Summit Arts Festival,” which will offer numerous events to community members between Sunday, June 23 and Saturday, June 29. Check Summit Patch on Sunday evening for more details.

A list of the artisans who will be in attendance on Sunday can be found on the Summit Downtown, Inc. website, Mixon said.

Some of those artisans are from the Chatham Area Artisans Guild, which includes established professional artists and craftsmen in the Chatham area. “That is really fun for us to be hosting a neighboring town that has a guild such as that,” Mixon said.

A number of wood carvers, participants from the Visual Arts Center of New Jersey, and additional local and regional artists will be present at the daylong festival, said Susan Petrow, Summit Downtown, Inc. Marketing Administrative Assistant.

Mixon said this community event will not include any food vendors, as many of the downtown restaurants will be open during festival hours.

“If it is good weather, there’s outdoor seating for most of our restaurants,” Mixon explained. “We encourage everybody to come up for the whole day, stroll through the festival, enjoy the music and pick up coffee or a meal.”

A number of performers will play throughout the day, Mixon and Petrow said.
