Visual Arts Center Prepares New Installations for Fall

Summit-based gallery will present three exhibitions in three different media.

Variety is what's coming from the Visual Arts Center of New Jersey this autumn. The Summit gallery will display large-scale drawing, digital photography and lighting installations in three fall exhibitions running from Sept. 20 through Nov. 24, with a free to the public opening reception on opening night, a Friday, from 6-8 p.m.

The offerings include

  • the group exhibition "Migratory Marks," which showcases recent innovations in contemporary drawing practices,
  • "Joan Pamboukes: Felix and the Meteor," in which the artist uses images appropriated through computer and television screens, to create digital photographs that examine how technology and the Internet allow humans to experience remarkable events such as Austrian daredevil Felix Baumgartner’s 2012 world record-breaking free fall jump from a stratospheric balloon.
  • "Carol Salmanson: Light Lines" spotlights a series of sculptural drawings fashioned from wire, light-emitting diodes and Plexiglas, as well as a free-standing sculpture. The Brooklyn-based artist uses light and reflective materials to explore ideas about space and color.

The gallery is open Monday through Wednesday and Friday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m., Thursday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and weekends from 11 a.m. through 4 p.m. Admission is $5 general, $3 for seniors and youth, free for Art Center members. For more info, call 908-273-9121.
