Yale A Cappella Group Coming to Summit

The Spizzwinks(?), Yale University's oldest all-male a cappella group, and the world's oldest underclassman singing group, will be performing at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Christ Church.

The concert will feature freshman member Max Sauberman of Millburn.

Founded in 1914, The Spizzwinks(?) are celebrating their 100th year. Members are selected from the freshman, sophomore, and junior classes, while seniors have the opportunity to audition for the widely-acclaimed Whiffenpoofs. This year's group features 18 singers. During the course of each member's three years as a Spizzwink(?), every singer is guaranteed to visit and perform at all six inhabitable continents as well as in every member's hometown.

This year alone, the group will tour the entire East Coast, visit New Zealand, and take a four-week tour across Europe. Ryan Campbell, of nearby Stirling, NJ, will also be featured at Friday's concert. 

Sauberman, a Millburn High School class of 2013 graduate, sang with the school's choir and chorale, conducted the band at football games, was a Forensics team captain, led the Drama Club, and directed Soulfege, MHS' student-run a cappella group, from the end of his sophomore year until graduation. Soulfege will be opening the Summit concert for the Spizzwinks(?) with a small set of their own.

Tickets priced at $10 for students and $15 for adults can be purchased at the door or in advance.

The concert will run approximately 60 minutes.
