At the Station: Music on the Way to Work

Who's at the Summit train station? Each week, Patch goes to find out.

Each weekday, on average, 3,642 people board a train in Summit, according to New Jersey Transit. The Morris & Essex lines that serve the station carry workers and students, the young and the old. Throw in the train station's sideline as a shortcut through town, and few places offer a better glimpse of Summit's diversity.

Every week, Patch talks with one person at the station. With trains to catch, our questions cover the basics: who are you, where are you from, and where are you going?

Rosemary Burgos, 27, of Elizabeth, 8:40 a.m. Friday, standing under the NJ Transit clock in the station's main hallway.

What do you do?

I'm a receptionist for a pediatrician's office.

Do you like your job?

It depends on the day, because sometimes if it's a crazy day, the parents get so irate. But the kids are so adorable.

Do you take the train every day?

Every day, Monday through Friday.

How do you get from Elizabeth to Morristown?

I have to take two buses and a train. The bus is on the corner by my house. I take the 52 bus and transfer to the 70 bus, which gets to Summit, and then I take the train from Summit to Morristown. It takes about an hour and fifteen minutes, depending, because sometimes the bus is late.

What train are you usually on in the morning?

It's supposed to be the 8:33 a.m., but if the bus is late, I catch the 8:47 a.m.

Where are you from?

I moved to Elizabeth in April of last year, from Maplewood. I've been all over. I grew up in Upper Manhattan.

Any impressions of Summit?

I'm always here in the station. I don't know anywhere else in Summit. From this area there used to be more public phones and buses going to where I'm going, home. The buses are an hour apart at night, so when I'm on my late day, like last night, I waited an hour here.

What do you do while you're waiting?

I listen to my music. I go on my phone on Facebook. I just sold my iPhone, so I have a Pantech smart phone.

What were you just listening to?

It's called "I Luv Your Girl," by The Dream.
