Summit Downtown, Inc. Elects New Board Members

The (SDI) Board of Trustees held its first meeting of the year on Jan. 30 and elected the following officers: Kevin Smallwood, Chairman, Smallwood Financial Group; Bob Conway, Vice Chairman, Brownie Points Bakery; Detlef Felschow, Treasurer, Hilltop Community Bank; and Lori Dahl, Secretary, Coldwell Banker.

“I am really looking forward to working with the retailers, property owners and tenants of our downtown to keep moving in such a positive direction,” said Kevin Smallwood. “However, we still have challenges ahead keeping downtown vibrant, and more importantly keeping Summit the place to be for residents and shoppers with ease of use. I would like to thank Emi Havas for her wonderful work and leadership. I will certainly need to tap into her experience throughout the year.”

Summit Downtown, Inc. is a non-profit corporation that represents all retailers and businesses in the Special Improvement District.  The purpose of SDI is to encourage the development and improvement of the quality of life in the business community in the downtown.  It is governed by a 20 member Board of Trustees that comprise downtown retailers, downtown property owners, community residents, members of the Common Council, the Mayor and the City Administrator.

The tax revenues are dedicated to benefit the downtown and the City of Summit.  SDI promotes the downtown and its retail/business community through print and online advertising throughout the year and events such as Annual Restaurant Week, Girls’ Night Out, Summit Farmers Market, Summer Greenmarket, the Spring and Fall Street Fairs, Festival of Fine Arts and Crafts, Antique/Classic Car Show, Halloween Trick or Treat, and December Holiday Events.  SDI also partners with other non-profits such as the Summit Historical Society, Suburban Chambers of Commerce, Reeves-Reed Arboretum, Shaping Summit Together and Summit YMCA.

The Board of Trustees meets monthly the last Wednesday of every month at City Hall, 8 a.m. in the Whitman Room. The meeting is open to the public.
