Tito's Burritos Hosts First Wing Contest

Tom Cavanaugh took home first place in the Gnarly category and Ankit Patel took the cake in Wings of Death.

Titos Burritos hosted its first Buffalo Wing wing eating contest on Saturday at both its Summit and Morristown locations.

Forty contestants participated in the competition, the idea of which came from the manager of the Morristown location.

Each contestant was assigned a number and a numbered pan which had been weighed beforehand.  Additional pre-weighed one pound pans were assigned as needed.

To determine the amount eaten, you weighed the finished pan(s) and subtracted that amount from the total weight given to that person.

Whomever eats the most, wins.

Contestants competed in two categories: Gnarly Wings (38 entrants) and Wings of Death (2 entrants). The first place winner received a one years supply of Wings (a dozen a month for a year), second place price was a $25 gift certificate, and third place prize was a $10 gift certificate.

Each contestant has two minutes and a two-pound pan and a refillable drink of their choice, with additional one pound pans given as needed.

After two contestants ties in the Gnarly category, a wing-off was held. The winner was the person who ate the most from a one pound pan in 60 seconds.

The Gnarly winners were:

  • First place:  Tom Cavanaugh, who ate almost three pounds
  • Second Place:  Jason Sierant
  • Third Place:  Matt Mulholland

In the Wings of Death category the first place price went to Ankit Patel, who ate just over two pounds. Second place went to 15 year old Sam Goodstein.
