Superior Court Judge Arrested, Alleged eBay Scam Top Regional News

Relay for Life and armed officers in schools are other top headlines this week.

A Woodbridge Superior Court Judge who was arrested Tuesday had been harboring a "live-in companion" wanted for an alleged armed robbery, the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office said.

Carlia Magpantay Brady, 41, has been charged with two counts of hindering the apprehension of a fugitive.

A Summit resident surrendered Thursday for his alleged role in a scheme that defrauded hundreds of sellers of foreign and antique banknotes on eBay over the course of five years, U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman said.

According to a complaint, David D'Aries, 49, devised a scheme in which he posed as a buyer on the Internet auction site interested in purchasing rare and antique foreign banknotes available for bid.

Consolidation Study Commission Gets Off the Ground 

The Fanwood-Scotch Plains Consolidation Study Commission – a volunteer body charged with analyzing the potential merits of a consolidation between the two communities – held its first organizational meeting on Wednesday

 and began its efforts toward funding a merger study. At the commission's next meeting, they will further discuss the biggest task ahead, which is fundraising for the study. Parisi said during the meeting that they expect the study to cost between $50,000 to $75,000.

Renee Sarnicki gets teared up just thinking about the culmination of her and her team's year of fundraising for the Clark Relay For Life on Friday at Arthur L. Johnson High School. This year, Sarnicki's team – Rahway Regional Cancer Center – has already raised a whopping $41,169 for the American Cancer Society, a record-breaking total for over the six year's Sarnicki has been involved.

School Resource Officer Decision Delayed

After hours of discussion Tuesday evening, the Westfield Board of Education decided to table its vote on whether the school resource officer position should be reinstated. The decision will be made at the board's next meeting to be held at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, June 24.
