Bear Sighted Near Summit Middle School

City officials have issued a Code Red emergency alert to notify residents that a free-ranging bear has been sighted around the .

The bear was last seen heading in a westerly direction, the alert states. For the time-being please keep small children and pets in doors as a precaution. Residents should also ensure their garbage and recyclables are secured. Bears are not generally aggressive and tend to shy away from contact with humans; however, residents should be take appropriate precautions.
