Deb Belfatto Withdraws From Campaign

Cites increasing workload as Co-founder, Executive Director of Komen for the Cure, North Jersey Affiliate.

Paul Dillon, Chairman of the Summit Municipal Democratic Committee, has
announced that Deb Belfatto has withdrawn as a candidate for Summit Common
Council, Ward 1, due to her increasing responsibilities and activities as the Co-Founder and Executive Director of Komen for the Cure, North Jersey Affiliate.

"When Deb Belfatto agreed to run on the Democratic ticket for the Ward 1 position, we were delighted to have a person of her experience and achievement willing to represent Ward 1 residents. However, we also knew that Deb had an important job at the Komen organization, where she has helped to raise more than $15 million for cancer research and screening over the past decade," Dillion said in a press release.

"Although Deb Belfatto was eager to share her expertise in organizational development and healthcare advocacy as a member of Common Council, she had come to understand that she could not serve on Common Council and still continue her full time commitment to the Komen organization. Therefore, she has reluctantly withdrawn her name from the November ballot."

Because she is withdrawing by September 14th, Deb Belfatto's name will not appear on the ballot, per NJ Election Law, thereby avoiding confusion to voters.

"Deb and Joe are long-time friends and incredibly generous community supporters. In particular, their energy and generosity have helped this year to get out the message of 'Putting Community First,'" said Mayor Jordan Glatt in a statement. "Even though Deb has made the difficult decision to withdraw her candidacy,
I know Steve and Laura will be calling on her for her advice and expertise, and especially for her ideas on revitalizing Summit's downtown."
