Farmer's Market Opens Sunday

Four new vendors join 2011 lineup.

The ever-popular Summit Farmers Market returns on Sunday, June 5 at Park & Shop Lot #2 on the corner of Maple Street and DeForest Avenue.

The market will be open every Sunday from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. rain or shine from June 5 to November 20. Free parking is available in adjacent parking lots and on the street for all visitors and the market is a short walk from the train station and bus stops. 

The 2011 market features local and regional goods, including a variety of organic produce, plants and flowers, and specialty items from returning favorites and newcomers. 

New to the market this year will be WoodsEdge Wools Farm from Stockton, who will join the market full time this year.  Their “fiber farm” is all natural and uses no herbicides or pesticides.  They will be bringing their alpaca wool, scarves, socks and hats starting in September.  Mangia! will be joining the market with a whole variety of stuffed breads for meals, appetizers or dessert.  Also Savory Cheesecakes will be offering fabulous gourmet spreadable cheesecakes for that special event, and Carter & Cavero will join us to offer very special olive oils and aged balsamic vinegars.

Again in the fall, Peony’s Envy of Bernardsville will be in Summit o sell their herbaceous and tree peonies. Their gardens are open May 1 to June 15.

Returning farmers include (Blairstown), (East Windsor), (Lawrenceville), (Lambertville) and (Washington).  ’ delicious prepared and frozen foods will be on site again this year and who has also opened a retail operation right here in Summit, as well as (Teaneck), which offers many varieties of pickled vegetables.   The market also features from Long Valley with their cave-aged cheese, and which will again be offering super-fresh seafood caught at our own Jersey Shore.  Summit’s own Bakery returns as well with their delectable goodies along with (Clifton) featuring aromatic sausages and kielbasa and Key Ingredient Catering (North Bergen) return with their sauces, dips, spreads, chips, and soups. Ester Mallach of will be returning to the Summit Farmers Market this year with her specialty baked-goods for vegans.  Her vegan breads and pastries are made without preservatives, GMOs, hydrogenated oils or trans-fats and are currently featured at The Health Shoppe in Morristown. Buzzing Acre Farms returns with wonderful honeys, honey sticks and more!  Gourmet Nuts & Fruits, who offer over 60 different types of dried fruits and nuts as well Lux Naturals with their wonderful handcrafted soaps and candles.  will again be offering a wide variety of fresh tacos and Yona’s are coming this season with wonderful fresh herbs and other goodies. will bring their homemade Polish kielbasa, pierogis and cabbages plus Paolo’s Kitchen will have yummy homemade meals for you to take home and enjoy.  Summit’s own Café Mavi will return offering fresh coffee, coffee beans, smoothies and more!
