Give the Gift of Life: Donate Blood Today!

Drive going on today in Scotch Plains and Chatham.

Here are five things you need to know today, Feb. 27, 2011:

  1. Today is the last day to enjoy restaurant week! Check summitdowntown.org for a list of participating restaurants and their specials.
  2. Donate blood today! in Scotch Plains and in Chatham are both holding drives today from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  3. There will be another performance of "Speed the Plow" at the Summit Playhouse today. Curtain goes up at 2 p.m. 
  4. The Summit Police Department is in need of more school crossing guards. Most guards work two shifts per day from 7:45 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. to 3:45 p.m., school days, Monday through Friday.School crossing guards are paid $40.33 per day. An incentive bonus of three full days pay is given to those with a perfect attendance record for the school year. Should the schools declare a snow day, crossing guards will be paid for these days, provided they work the day before and the day after the snow day.The Summit Police Department provides uniforms and training. Applicants must be at least 18 years old and provide their own transportation to the crossing posts. Anyone interested may pick up an application at the Summit Police Department located at 512 Springfield Av. Any questions should be directed to Sgt. David Richel, 908-277-9397.
  5. The 25th Annual International Juried Show is going on at the Visual Arts Center of New Jersey. The 25th Annual International Juried Show presents artwork in all media from artists residing in the United States and around the globe. Joan Young, Associate Curator of Contemporary Art, Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, is this year's juror. Gallery hours:10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
