Hurricane Irene: Five Things You Need to Know to Stay Informed

Here's how you can stay current as the storm develops.

As Hurricane Irene approaches New Jersey, winds could take it out to sea or bring it closer to us. Its trajectory will impact how much the hurricane affects Summit—here's how you can stay current on developments from the storm.

You Need To Know Weather Forecasts: Check the Weather Channel's hurricane tracker, or go here for the National Ocean and Atmosphere Administration's Storm Tracker.

You Need To Know Local Water Levels: Keep an eye on area rivers and streams with the US Geological Survey's Water Flow Monitor.

You Need To Know Emergency Numbers: If flood waters are threatening your home, or you need police assistance, call the police department at (908) 273-0051—emergency lines at 9-1-1 may be overwhelmed with more urgent calls, so be sure to only use the line for medical, fire or life-threatening situations.

You Need To Know About Traveling Conditions: Keep an eye on Warren Patch for updates on road or mass transit problems that may arise. We'll have information from area airports, as well as NJ Transit news.

You Need To Know What's Happening Down The Street: Stay current with local developments with Summit Patch—share the view outside your home as the storm passes through. Be sure to check for our Twitter feeds (@Summitpatch) and stay in touch with your neighbors on our Facebook page.
