Looking Back at October Snowstorm

It's been nearly three weeks since Summit was blanketed in heavy wet snow that toppled trees and cut power to thousands of homes.

N.J. has asked the federal government for aid in the wake of last month's storm. With the winter just a few more weeks away, there's no way of telling what Mother Nature has in store for us. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration released a Winter Outlook report with no clear picture of how N.J. and surrounding states will be affected:

Northeast and Mid-Atlantic: equal chances for above-, near-, or below-normal temperatures and precipitation. Winter weather for these regions is often driven not by La Niña but by the Arctic Oscillation. If enough cold air and moisture are in place, areas north of the Ohio Valley and into the Northeast could see above-average snow.

FEMA is encouraging communities to review disaster plans in the event of more power outtages this winter. No matter what the coming months hold for us, preparation is indeed key.
