Mayor Glatt: JCP&L and Crews Assisting With Downed Power Lines

As the city and out of state crews work on restoring power lines they ask that residents beware of scams.

The city's electrical utility provider, Jersey Central Power & Light, is working closely with the city to remove downed electrical wires, so that trees can be removed and roadways opened, according to Mayor Jordan Glatt.

"Please remember for your safety to stay away from any downed electrical wire," Mayor Glatt wrote in a statement.

The mayor said that Jersey Central Power & Light has assigned additional tree and electrical line repair crews to Summit, some from as far away as Ohio, Maryland and West Virginia.

The city is reminding residents that tree contractors NEVER ask customers for money to clear down trees and branches as part of the storm restoration process.

Summit and surrounding communities have begun receiving reports of individuals posing as JCP&L contractors to remove trees, pocketing money and leaving.

If residents are approached by anyone representing JCP&L and charging fees for services, they are asked to call the Summit Police Department immediately at 908-273-0051.

In addition, if residents see anyone stealing downed wires, they are also requested to call the Summit police and report the incident.
